Operates one or more types of heavy motor equipment such as refuse trucks, street sweepers, dump trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, and earth movers, and performs related work as required. The work requires considerable skill in manipulating heavy motor equipment and constant attention to operational safety to prevent accidents. Assignments are outlined in detail by supervisors, standard procedures are followed, and work is inspected periodically for safety and economy of operation. This class differs from Equipment Operator I due to the higher degree of skill required and the greater consequences of errors resulting in damage to expensive equipment. An employee in this class may direct helpers as job requirements dictate.
