About The Position

As an Equipment Operator I, you will perform semi-skilled maintenance tasks such as operating sweeper, front end loader, backhoe, utility truck with trailer, and tankers to support ongoing construction projects for the City's Public Works Department. This position requires that you are available for emergency callout. As an Equipment Operator I with the Street Sweeper division, you will operate equipment such as a sweeper, front end loader, backhoe, utility truck with trailer, and tankers. You will also operate a single/tandem axle dump truck with plow and sander during snow removal operations. Additionally, you will transport material and equipment to and from maintenance and construction sites, safely use, clean, service, and make minor adjustments and repairs to equipment and tools. You will perform manual labor such as raking/shoveling dirt and asphalt, removing debris, and shoveling snow. You will safely operate hand and power tools and construction and maintenance equipment such as compactors, front-end loaders, walk behind saws and jack hammers. You will also perform grounds maintenance and clean up, and assist other divisions within the Public Works departments as business needs permit. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of full-time, professional experience in related field
  • Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary driver’s license not subject to restrictions
  • Possess upon hire, or be willing to obtain within 12 months of hire, a valid non-probationary Colorado Class B CDL not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges is required for this position.
  • Knowledge of the basic operation and maintenance requirements of power-driven equipment
  • Knowledge of practices, methods, and materials used in general construction
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices
  • Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods
