About The Position

This is the entry-level class in the Equipment Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Equipment Operator II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this series under close supervision. This class is typically used as a training class; employees will need some related work experience. After gaining knowledge and experience of operations, position can be moved to a higher job classification when an opening becomes available.

Requirements

  • Two years construction related work.
  • Formal or informal education that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for job performance.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Lay hot mix asphalt.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain and perform minor repairs on a variety of machinery and equipment in the performance of duties including hand and power tools, street roller, welder, backhoe, front-end loader, jackhammer, dump truck, chainsaw, brushhog and tractors.
  • Participate in cemetery street repairs; prepare holes in street surfaces for repair; apply patching material to fill hole.
  • Participate in mixing, pouring and finishing concrete.
  • Clean and maintain order of work areas.
  • Maintain service and repair records on division machinery and equipment.
  • Set up and remove carpets, chairs, tent, pulpit and lowering device for the burial service; reset fallen headstones.
  • Place plywood upon cemetery driveways for burial ceremony during rainy weather.
  • Use monument clamps and lifting devices to move, level and set monuments.
  • Transport machinery and equipment to and from the job site.
  • Repair water lines and faucets within the cemetery and chapel area.
  • Remove refuse from containers within the cemetery.
  • Pallbearer during graveside services.
  • Participate in landscaping cemetery areas; maintain grounds; move and trim lawns; trim vegetation; apply herbicides and pesticides.
  • Participate in chipping wood; collect fallen limbs in cemetery areas.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
