About The Position

This position supports the planning, construction, and maintenance of natural-surface trails and recreation infrastructure throughout the Michaux Forest District. Your work will involve operating heavy equipment, performing manual labor, and helping to ensure safe and sustainable trail systems. As an Equipment Operator B, you will perform the following duties: Trail Work: Operate heavy equipment and tools to construct, repair, and maintain natural-surface trails Equipment Operation: Use Class A vehicles, power tools, and hand tools to complete assigned projects Site Maintenance: Repair and maintain recreation areas, campsites, parking areas, and related infrastructure Crew Leadership: Assist as a lead worker by guiding support staff and coordinating project tasks Safety Practices: Follow safety procedures, wear proper protective gear, and maintain diligent awareness around equipment Field Support: Help with habitat projects, road work, demolition, and fire suppression when needed.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more
  • Any equivalent combination of experience or training
  • Possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license
  • Possession of a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) and any endorsements required to operate specific equipment
  • Meet the PA residency requirement
  • Able to perform essential job functions
