About The Position

Operates a variety of equipment (excluding cranes) used in the construction, maintenance and repair of marine vessels and shipyard maintenance. Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers; the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described. Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays. Operate trucks and construction equipment, such as backhoe, man-lift, road grader and front-end loader, etc. Operate trucks, and construction equipment such as backhoe, skid steer, front end loader, telescopic telehandler forklift, etc. Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment. Perform routine inspection on assigned equipment and notify management required maintenance and/or repair. Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Work with hand signals from Universal Standard Signal Chart. Work with minimal supervision. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalence plus one to three years’ experience in the operation of a variety of heavy equipment required.
• Requires knowledge of ship terminology, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
• Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram form or plans.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.
• Ability to read and understand load charts.
• Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
• Integrity, ethics, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, safety conscious, and multi-tasking.
• Maintain the confidential integrity of details pertaining to Eastern Shipbuilding Group.
• Valid driver’s license.
