About The Position

The Equipment Mechanic reports to the Equipment Manager and assists in overseeing a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. This includes repairing failing equipment, maintaining records of parts and labor, and ordering necessary parts and supplies. The mechanic is responsible for communicating equipment needs or problems to the Equipment Manager or Director of Agronomy, and for maintaining a clean and safe service area. This role requires a strong emphasis on safety and proper record-keeping.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • One to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatus.
  • Skill in the use of a wide variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair.
  • Knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and keep business records.
  • Requires a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional status through interface with customers.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional working relationship with management and co-workers.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules.
  • Must be willing to "pitch-in" and help co-workers with their job duties and be a team player.
  • Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of standing and/or walking.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Physical stamina and a proper mental attitude to work under pressure at a fast pace are essential.
  • Must have the mental fortitude to handle the pressures of multiple tasks while providing excellent guest service.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for equipment.
  • Repair failing equipment.
  • Keep records of parts and labor for equipment maintenance.
  • Place orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service.
  • Properly communicate any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Equipment Manager or Director of Agronomy.
  • Schedule and direct the work assignments of the equipment manager.
  • Place safety as a top priority.
  • Maintain a clean service area and maintenance building.
  • Adhere to all written mandatory standards of operation, policies, procedures, manuals, and memos.
  • Display a positive attitude and motivate all employees to exceed.
  • Overhaul and repair automotive and powered equipment including engines, brakes, transmissions, differentials, springs, and mufflers.
  • Secure and replace tools and parts.
  • Clean working areas after repairs are completed.
  • Assist in electric gas welding.
  • Lubricate and service automotive equipment.
  • Inspect equipment for operating deficiencies and make routine adjustments where necessary.
  • Fill automotive equipment with fuel and check fluid levels.
  • Inspect, change, and repair tires.
  • Maintain mileage reports.
  • Perform body repair and painting work.
  • Repair and adjust the engines and cutting mechanisms of a wide variety of heavy and light mowing equipment.
  • Serve as a guest relations ambassador and deliver high-level service.
  • Uphold Shangri-La's professional, courteous, and guest-focused standards.
  • Maintain punctuality, adaptability, and a proactive problem-solving attitude.
  • Follow all safety policies, emergency procedures, and chemical handling protocols.
  • Report hazards and practice safe lifting and kitchen safety procedures.
