About The Position

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Fleet and Fabrication Services, overhauls and maintains vehicles, construction equipment, small engines, hydraulic equipment, and tools. Shift Information: There are two shifts for this position. Hours are either Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:30pm OR Hours are Monday - Friday 2:00pm to 10:30pm There is an additional 5% per hour shift pay differential for the PM shift

Requirements

Two-year technical certificate in automotive or diesel mechanics.
Two years full-time employment as an automotive or diesel mechanic.
Must possess a valid State of Iowa Class B W/Airbrakes commercial driver's license within 90 days of appointment.
Driver remain insurable under the Company’s coverage.
Must be at least 21 years old for this position.

Knowledge of automotive, diesel, hydraulic, lawn and garden equipment, small tools and equipment operation and repair
Able to obtain A Series & T Series ASE Certifications
Knowledge of welding
State of Iowa Class A, Commercial Driver's License
Knowledge of auto body repair
Knowledge of vehicle air conditioning systems

Responsibilities

Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment and vehicles when malfunctions occur.
Determines the appropriate method of corrections.
Reviews work orders on vehicles, mobile equipment, and construction equipment.
Disassembles motors and other equipment parts and rebuilds, repairs, and/or replaces necessary parts.
Inspects and checks performance of equipment and vehicles to ensure maximum performance and safety, and to identify repairs and maintenance required.
Estimates time, parts, tools, and equipment needed for repairs; compiles and submits list to obtain items; confers with the Fleet Manager if a significant amount of time and/or cost is involved.
Maintains records of service to equipment according to established procedures.
Operates heavy equipment to transport malfunctioning equipment so that necessary repairs can be made.
Performs routine preventative maintenance on vehicles and/or equipment such as changing oil, filters and grease, rotating & changing tires, etc.
Uses vehicle maintenance software, e-mail and electronic calendar, and other computer software programs.
Performs minor welding repairs on vehicles and equipment.
Performs other duties of a similar nature.
