About The Position

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has a vacancy for an Equipment Mechanic II that is based out of our equipment shop in Aurora. This position assists with the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of heavy equipment in the Metro Denver area. Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: Assist with the diagnosis and repair of vehicle and equipment malfunctions on all major systems. Assist with the overhaul and rebuild of components and equipment. Use test equipment to diagnose defects or malfunctions. Work on vehicles and equipment such as 3.5-ton single axle and 10-ton tandem axle, tractor-trailers, front end loaders, motor graders, asphalt paving machines, and 15' mower tractors. Perform preventative maintenance and annual safety inspections. Use computers to track vehicle repairs. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

Two (2) years of experience with a primary focus in automotive and/or heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience equal to two (2) years.
Must possess a current, valid regular or commercial driver’s license.
Must obtain a CDL Permit within 30 days of hire as a condition of continued employment.
As part of obtaining your CDL permit, you must pass the DOT drug test and DOT physical.
Must obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes within 6 months of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Will be required to pass a controlled substance test (i.e., drug test), and DOT physical through our medical provider.
Required to lift up to 70 lbs.
Required to bend, kneel, climb in/out of trucks when maintaining and repairing equipment.
Required to operate CDOT vehicles and heavy equipment.
Must be able to read, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
Frequent travel during work day to perform field repairs, as well as to attend trainings and meetings.
Must be able to hear and communicate via cell phone and state radio to relay information and respond to field calls.

Medium/Heavy truck ASE Certifications in Diesel Engine, Drive Trains, Brakes, Suspension and Steering, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating, Ventilation, and A/C is highly desirable
