Under the direction of Perioperative Leadership, the Equipment Materials and Instrument Coordinator is accountable for the daily management of equipment, materials, and instruments for assigned specialty team or area within the department. Coordinates equipment, materials, and instruments for surgical procedures, assuring presence, location and availability. Educates users on equipment function and processing. Ensures that proper supply, implant and equipment billing processes are in place. Works collaboratively with members of the healthcare team to identify opportunities for standardization of products in the department and across the organization. Investigates alternative sources for items that have been depleted in coordination with the specialty team leaders, and Supply Chain Management. Through coordination with the sterile processing and supple chain teams, the EMIC assures all equipment, materials and instruments are ready for each case and is responsible for establishing and maintaining their locations within the department. Coordinates preventive maintenance program for equipment, and routine infrastructure repair. The EMIC maintains knowledge of current and prospective surgery products, organizes equipment, supply and implant trials, collecting and analyzing evaluations, making recommendations for change in equipment purchases to specialty teams. Coordinates with infection prevention, facilities and biomedical services on instructions for use during procurement process of new equipment, materials and instruments. Assists with training and education of colleagues in the use and processing of equipment, materials and instruments. Aggressively seeks and recommends cost savings possibilities based upon new sources, substitutions, improved systems, or new technology. Coordinates the ordering/purchasing of approved specialty/non-stock items for the department, in collaboration with team members as needed.
