About The Position

The Equipment & Laundry Room Coordinator serves as the primary personnel for equipment and laundry operations. This role involves daily tasks such as washing, drying, folding, and distributing laundry for Athletic, Recreation, and Kinesiology departments. Additionally, the position will handle operational duties and facility maintenance, including preparing activity spaces for classes, setting up and taking down equipment for special events, maintaining Simpson field, and general facility projects within the McPhee/Olson complex.

Requirements

  • Any combination of experience, undergraduate education, and/or post high school training with laundry and/or sport equipment operations.
  • Ability to read, write, understand and follow instructions.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and to push and pull linen carts.
  • Organization, inventory and record keeping skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and with professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperate with diverse groups of people.
  • Must be able to work an occasional irregular schedule including evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a commercial or institutional laundry setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in repairing and maintaining athletic equipment.
  • Knowledge of sanitary and cleansing protocol of athletic equipment.
  • Field maintenance experience.
  • Previous organizational or supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all soiled laundry is washed, dried, folded, and distributed daily.
  • Install, remove, and store appropriate equipment for Kinesiology activity classes based on schedules.
  • Evaluate and update washing schedules and procedures as needed.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student laundry workers.
  • Work with student staff to complete laundry tasks, equipment setup/removal for classes and events, and cover non-traditional operating hours.
  • Structure room schedules and coordinate with student staff for preseason laundry for athletic teams and other groups outside normal operating times.
  • Collaborate with athletic, recreation, and kinesiology staff regarding laundry needs, equipment organization, and storage.
  • Repair or recommend repair of clothing and permanent activity equipment.
  • Assist with the distribution of equipment and clothing, verify their return, and check equipment storage.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of detergents and other cleaning agents.
  • Keep the laundry and equipment room clean, organized, and secure.
  • Perform weekly field grooming and maintenance for the Simpson turf field.
  • Complete daily checks of Simpson field and assist with keeping the complex clean and organized, including moving equipment, disposing of garbage, organizing sheds, and locking gates.
  • Oversee designated special events as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Assist with postseason NCAA tournaments when appropriate.
  • Serve as the building receiving and shipping clerk, responsible for distributing parcels and contacting recipients.
  • Inform the supervisor of all purchase needs for efficient functioning of the laundry and equipment room.
  • Execute check-out and end-of-year clean-out and inventory processes for lockers, locks, laundry loops, and other items.
  • Perform cleaning of equipment including bleachers, fans, tables, chairs, and other facility supplies.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed by the Supervisor, McPhee/Olson complex, and Recreation and Sport Operations Department.
  • Develops, implements, maintains, and executes procedures and/or schedules for equipment orders, distribution, storage, cleaning, and repair to ensure safety and optimal functionality.
  • Transports equipment to practices, competitions, and events according to established instructions and needs.
  • Serves as a point of contact for staff and student-athletes regarding equipment options and provides basic information.
  • Maintains organization of and documents inventory of sports equipment for one or more assigned sports and recommends equipment procurement when necessary.
