About The Position

As part of Johnson Controls' Building Solutions North America business, this Project Manager role focuses on leading large, multi-million dollar controls construction projects specifically within data centers across the United States. This is a U.S.-based remote position requiring travel to customer sites as necessary, with potential travel up to 50% or more depending on project demands. Under general direction, the Project Manager is responsible for ensuring the profitable execution of assigned projects, maintaining positive cash flow, and delivering within contractual scope, timelines, and budget. This includes collaboration with various internal teams and external stakeholders during the early stages of the project development process to provide strategic recommendations, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and standards, and adhering to Johnson Controls' highest ethical principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture, or an Associate’s Degree with equivalent work-related experience.
  • Minimum of eight years of direct project management experience in the Building Construction Industry, particularly in data centers.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
  • Proficient in Project Management software and financial accounting systems.
  • Strong personal computer working capabilities in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project), Adobe Writer, Visio, and basic Windows environment.
  • Able to complete projects of higher project and contract complexity (multiple subcontractors and multiple scopes of work).
  • Experience in dealing with a large and diverse number of simultaneous challenges, requiring knowledge of many different subject areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Management experience with projects related to Mechanical Retrofits, HVAC controls, BAS management, Fire management, and Security management systems within data centers is desired.
  • Expectation that PMI/PMP (Project Management Institute, Project Management Professional) certification will be obtained within 2 years of employment in the position.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the on-site leader for execution teams, ensuring that all project activities adhere to safety standards and ethical practices.
  • Develop and implement project schedules, adapt to contractual scope changes, and actively pursue and manage change orders.
  • Analyze financial reports and project schedules to identify and address potential issues proactively while maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Build and sustain long-term relationships with customers, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure seamless project execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Evaluate and manage project scopes, field directives, and client-issued changes, ensuring accurate cost assessments and timely resolutions.
  • Oversee costs, billing, and collections to meet profitability targets while maintaining positive cash flow.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, as well as Johnson Controls' standards and procedures.
  • Negotiate, prepare, and manage subcontracts, ensuring documentation aligns with contractual requirements.
  • Facilitate customer training and manage engineering and commissioning processes to align with project standards.
  • Provide direction and resources to field teams and collaborate with sales and management for project development initiatives.
