About The Position

Blue Ridge Equine Clinic is accepting candidates for its 2027 Equine Veterinary Internship Program. The internship is intended for veterinary graduates seeking to build confidence, develop clinical skills, and gain experience with a diverse equine caseload. Located in Virginia’s horse country, the clinic provides ambulatory and hospital-based care for sport, pleasure, and breeding horses, among others. Interns join the medical team from day one, work alongside experienced equine veterinarians, and progressively build clinical skills and independence. The role offers exposure to lameness and performance evaluations, emergency care, reproduction, internal medicine, surgery, diagnostics, and preventative care, with opportunities to strengthen diagnostic, technical, case-management, and client-communication skills. The position emphasizes mentorship, collaboration, and compassionate care for horses and their owners.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.
• Compassionate and team-oriented approach to veterinary medicine.
• Strong interest in equine practice and continued clinical development.
• Ability to lift 40+ lbs.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Curiosity, hard work, and willingness to learn, take initiative, and embrace the challenges of equine practice.

Responsibilities

• Participate as an active member of the medical team and learn alongside experienced equine veterinarians.
• Gain exposure to lameness and performance evaluations, emergency care, reproduction, internal medicine, surgery, diagnostics, and preventative care.
• Develop diagnostic approaches, technical abilities, case-management skills, and client communication through involvement in cases.
• Build a clinical foundation through exposure to ambulatory and hospital-based medicine.
• Take on greater responsibility as skills and confidence develop, with support from the experienced team.
