About The Position

The Equine Assistant for Horseback Riding (HBR) for Blackberry will have at least five years of equestrian or horse handling experience and will demonstrate the basic skills necessary to work with horses safely. The Equine Assistant will safely catch, halter, and lead horses, have a basic understanding of equine psychology to handle horses in a busy and challenging environment safely, and be conscious of guest safety when handling horses. Responsibilities include cleaning stalls, stables, tack and equipment, assisting in keeping stables and grounds neat and attractive, grooming horses for guests and private owners, administering equine first aid and medication, holding horses for farrier/vet/treatment, assisting instructor Guides in tacking up and harnessing carriage horses and carriage prep, assisting in equine management, care, and feeding, graciously greeting guests and facilitating any paperwork, knowing HBR offerings and confidently communicating descriptions to guests, and utilizing basic computer skills to assist with scheduling. Must comply with all company policies and procedures. Regular and consistent attendance is required to perform the essential functions of this position. Must be able to work well with other Team Members and managers and interact with our guests.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of equine handling
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to communicate with guests, team members, and managers effectively
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of math
  • Must be able to resolve any issues regarding guests concerning the equestrian
  • Must be able to exercise judgment and make decisions based on job knowledge and awareness of company goals
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to operate any motorized company vehicle safely
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions
