About The Position

The MSPCA is hiring a part-time Equine and Farm Animal Welfare Specialist at its Methuen Animal Care and Adoption Center at Nevins Farm. This is a 20-hour-per-week position, and candidates must be available to work Mondays and Tuesdays. The specialist works hands-on with equine and farm animals, helps prospective adopters find suitable matches through conversation-based adoption support, and assists people surrendering animals with empathy and without judgment. The MSPCA is a New England animal welfare organization that cares for and places more than 11,000 animals annually across four adoption centers. Its Methuen Adoption Center takes in 3,500 animals a year and follows an open adoption philosophy while maintaining a commitment to socially conscious sheltering.

Requirements

At least one year of experience in a customer service or client care position.
Previous work or volunteer experience with farm and/or equine animals.
Demonstrate excellent judgment and interpersonal skills.
Show eagerness to support the human-animal bond.
Detail farm/equine animal care and customer service experience in the cover letter.
Availability to work Mondays and Tuesdays for 20 hours per week.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency in Spanish.

Responsibilities

Work hands-on with equine and farm animals, including cleaning, feeding, providing enrichment activities, and administering medication.
Facilitate adoptions by matching animals with prospective adopters through a conversation-based approach, seeking the best possible outcome for both the person and the animal.
Assist with animal surrenders in an empathetic, compassionate, and nonjudgmental manner.
