About The Position

The Bureau of HIV, STI, and Viral Hepatitis (BHSH) at the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) works to reduce the transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and hepatitis B and C through surveillance, prevention, and care. The bureau also offers treatment through participating providers and services to eligible Ohioans living with HIV and STIs. Within the bureau, the Ryan White Part B program team promotes health equity and optimal outcomes for Ohioans living with HIV, via access to quality care. As an Epidemiology Investigator 3, you will broaden and strengthen your existing skillsets in research, project management, program evaluation, statistical analysis, and technical writing. The expertise you bring will help collect and analyze program data that drives improvements in health outcomes and measures program impact. As a lead worker on the team, you’ll have the opportunity to further your public health career and make a meaningful contribution to communities across Ohio.

Requirements

  • Completion of graduate core program in public health or preventive medicine
  • 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in use of statistical computer software packages
  • 6 mos. exp. as epidemiology investigator with local or federal health agency
  • Must be able to provide own transportation

Responsibilities

  • Initiates, proposes, and conducts epidemiological projects, research, evaluations, and investigations pertaining to HIV infection within the Ryan White Part B and Ohio HIV Drug Assistance Programs
  • Conducts computerized (e.g., SAS) statistical analysis of data from multiple sources
  • Determines access to and retention in HIV medical care meeting national treatment standards
  • Prepares (or directs preparation of) technical reports from analysis
  • Assists with outcome evaluations of HIV prevention, treatment, and service programs
  • Provides technical information, advice, and guidance on HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases to other ODH program areas, external agencies, planning groups, advisory boards, and the general public
