About The Position

Under general supervision of the Epidemiologist II, organizes and coordinates any new or on-going special projects at the South Carolina Central Cancer Registry (SCCCR). This includes projects associated with data collection, quality, and data use. Performs routine statistical analyses using biostatistical/epidemiological/scientific methods & techniques in the design/analysis/evaluation of specific health problems using cancer registry data. Following established protocols, organizes, coordinates, and completes data request projects as assigned. Coordinates SCCCR Surveillance Subcommittee meetings for review of research data requests and other matters as assigned. Prepares materials related to review and communication back to researcher. Works closely with DPH Institutional Review Board (IRB) for all approved research applications. Maintains tracking database for all data requests (data release applications, cluster assessments, and aggregate routine data requests). Acts as liaison for Virtual Pooled Registry, and fulfills all related data requests. Completes other relevant duties as assigned related to the position.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Public Health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a closely related field and relevant working experience.
  • A Doctoral degree in epidemiology, or advanced training in applied epidemiology, such as the Public Health Prevention Specialist Program at the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) may substitute for experience.
  • Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • Knowledge of methods of epidemiological design, data collection, data analysis and presentation of information.
  • Knowledge of standard descriptive statistical methods.
  • Ability to present information in written and oral form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Advanced organizational skills in order to multitask effectively and meet deadlines for several ongoing projects.
