About The Position

The Epidemiologist studies the occurrence of disease and other health-related conditions or events in Montana to implement prevention and control measures. This position specifically focuses on topics related to substance use disorder, and other injury prevention topics as needed. The Epidemiologist is responsible for analysis and presentation of programmatic, service-related data, and disease surveillance data. This position coordinates and evaluates early warning drug overdose surveillance systems. Additional responsibilities include providing data and writing reports for programs and grants and responding to data requests from stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in epidemiology, statistics, or a closely related degree.
  • Three years of job-related experience in epidemiology.
  • Knowledge of surveillance concepts and theories including epidemiology, statistics, and public health practice.
  • Skill in programming in Statistical Analysis System (SAS), R, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), or other languages.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including public speaking.
  • Skill in writing technical reports or grants.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in substance use disorder, overdose, injury prevention, EMS, and trauma-related epidemiology.
