Epic Trainer - Information Systems

About The Position

The Epic Trainer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and delivering Epic training programs and educational resources that support organizational workflows and operational goals. This role maintains expertise in assigned Epic applications, training curriculum, and associated workflows while serving as a liaison between Information Systems, operational teams, and end users. The Epic Trainer collaborates with analysts, subject matter experts, leadership, and hospital staff to develop and maintain learning materials, support training environments, and facilitate training delivery for implementations, upgrades, and ongoing operational needs. Responsibilities include curriculum development, workflow analysis, end-user support, and promoting effective Epic adoption through education and collaboration. This role offers three experience levels (Epic Trainer I, II, and III) with progressively advanced responsibilities and expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Information Technology, Education, Nursing, Computer Science, or a related field required; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience in Epic training, healthcare informatics, or related Epic system experience preferred.
  • Experience working with Epic applications, healthcare workflows, or supporting end users within a healthcare environment preferred.
  • Experience facilitating training, developing curriculum, and supporting implementations, upgrades, or optimization initiatives preferred.
  • Experience supporting system implementations, workflow improvements, and operational initiatives preferred.
  • Basic to advanced understanding of Epic systems and healthcare workflows preferred, based on role level and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently deliver training, support users, and collaborate across teams preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate Epic training curriculum, role-based materials, and learning experiences using adult learning principles and best practices.
  • Deliver technical training while adjusting instructional approaches to support a variety of audiences and maximize knowledge retention.
  • Collaborate with end users, super users, subject matter experts, and analysts to assess workflows, application dependencies, and user competencies to determine learning objectives.
  • Translate Epic functionality and workflows into clear, user-friendly training materials and scenarios.
  • Provide at-the-elbow support for go-live events, system upgrades, and implementation activities.
  • Build, maintain, and test content and workflows within Epic training environments.
  • Serve as an Information Systems and education liaison for end users, operational teams, clinical staff, and vendors regarding Epic functionality and workflow questions.
  • Troubleshoot issues and build collaborative relationships across teams while supporting implementations and upgrades.
  • Review training effectiveness through assessments, feedback, and data to identify curriculum modifications and training opportunities.
  • Communicate regularly regarding project deliverables, shared issues, end-user concerns, and upcoming milestones.
  • Stay informed of Epic enhancements, emerging technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Take ownership of professional development and ongoing learning opportunities.
