About The Position

ZAP Engineering and Construction Services, Inc. is seeking an office-based EPC Project Assistant for its Lakewood, Colorado headquarters. The position’s primary focus is accurate, timely weld map data entry in WeldTrace. The assistant annotates weld maps as field work is completed; records weld, welder, procedure, date, welding and NDT results, repairs, material test reports, and heat numbers; maintains drawing and line revisions and related records; and keeps diameter-inch progress current for project, client, and billing reporting. The role also includes preparing, editing, and checking hydrostatic and pneumatic piping test packages, assembling supporting drawings and records, following packages through review and sign-off, and assisting with job preparation and project turnover. The assistant performs quantity takeoffs from drawings for concrete, structural steel, pipe, welds, and flanges, supports torque logs and progress reporting, tracks installed quantities, and updates takeoffs when drawings change. Additional duties include organizing project documentation, supporting closeout and archiving, and completing other project-support tasks as required. The position works Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with minimal travel, up to 10% for project site visits. It reports to the Execution Manager and has no direct reports. ZAP describes the role as a potential path into project controls, estimating, or field engineering.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail when entering high volumes of technical data.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, including piping isometrics, P&IDs, weld maps, and structural and civil plans.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, and other software required for daily tasks.
  • Comfort with basic construction math, including areas, volumes, weights, linear footage, and diameter inch.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to self-direct and take responsibility for tasks, deliverables, and timelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree.
  • At least 1 year of project administrative, document control, or QC data-entry experience.
  • At least 1 year of engineering and construction industry experience.
  • Experience with WeldTrace or a similar weld-tracking or QC database.
  • Familiarity with RT, UT, PT, and MT reports; MTRs; and heat-number traceability in an ASME B31.3 environment.
  • Experience preparing or checking hydrostatic or pneumatic piping test packages, including test boundaries and blind lists.
  • Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 pressure-testing requirements, including test pressure, medium, and hold time, and pneumatic stored energy and safe distance.
  • Familiarity with flange bolt-up and torque logs, including flange numbering, bolt size, and torque values.
  • Quantity takeoff experience for concrete, structural steel, or piping, including pipe footage, weld inch, and flange counts, by hand or using a takeoff tool.
  • Exposure to progress reporting or earned value management (EVM).

Responsibilities

  • Annotate weld maps in WeldTrace with weld numbers, welder IDs, welding procedures, and dates as field work is completed.
  • Enter welding and NDT results, acceptance status, repair and re-shoot history, MTRs, and heat number data against welds.
  • Maintain WeldTrace project data, including drawing and line revisions, weld map updates, and welder and procedure records.
  • Keep weld progress and diameter-inch complete figures current and identify missing or conflicting documentation.
  • Prepare hydrostatic and pneumatic piping test books by assembling isometrics and P&IDs, marking test boundaries and blinds, and specifying test pressure, medium, and hold time.
  • Edit and check test packages, verify boundary and specification details, confirm weld documentation and acceptance, and resolve record gaps before issue.
  • Track test packages through preparation, client review, test execution, sign-off, and turnover documentation.
  • Assemble drawing, weld map, and test package sets for crews before work starts.
  • Perform drawing-based quantity takeoffs for concrete volumes, structural steel tonnage, pipe footage, weld inch, and flange counts.
  • Reconcile pipe footage to line lists, number flanges on isometrics, and maintain flange torque logs.
  • Prepare checkable quantity summaries for estimating, project management, and project controls; track installed quantities and update takeoffs for drawing revisions.
  • File welding, NDT, and material documentation to project network and file-sharing sites and maintain organized project folders.
  • Assist with project closeout, turnover documentation, project-folder archiving, and other tasks supporting EPC construction execution.
