This role performs the duties of a cardiac technologist, including invasive cardiac and peripheral vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures and electrophysiology procedures. The technologist uses sophisticated imaging, hemodynamic monitoring, and recording equipment to assess and treat cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. The position involves monitoring, recording, and analyzing patient EKGs and intracardiac pressures, assisting the medical team with sterile procedures, operating X-ray and other laboratory equipment, running blood samples, and obtaining sterile supplies. The role requires the ability to work with all age groups from newborn to geriatric patients and a dedication to electrophysiology (EP) procedures, related protocols, and devices such as pacemakers, ICDs, and biventricular pacemakers. The technologist is expected to ensure the highest quality of care for patients with rhythm disturbances, providing advanced care for cardiac arrhythmias and conduction disorders. Expertise in pharmacologic options for patient treatment and understanding of special protocols for conscious sedation patients are necessary. A thorough knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamic principles, X-Ray techniques, and emergent and routine cardiac care is required. The role also includes accountability for updating self and staff regarding EP protocols and addressing the growth and development needs of diverse client populations.
