About The Position

The Equal Opportunity Commission (EOC) Investigator position is a perfect fit for individuals passionate about civil rights, motivated by doing the best work possible with limited supervision, and who enjoy using their analytical and writing skills daily. As an EOC Investigator, you will work independently to complete an assigned caseload, investigating complaints of alleged unlawful discriminatory practices in employment, housing, and public accommodations. You will utilize strong writing skills to draft charges, narratives of interviews, and case reports that compile evidence. Effective communication skills are essential for providing technical assistance to the public and conducting investigative interviews.

Requirements

  • Education, coursework, training or experience in investigative techniques, inter-group relations, human resources, or related field.
  • Knowledge of (or ability to acquire knowledge of): The Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission policies and regulations; the Nebraska Fair Employment Practice Act; the Nebraska Age Discrimination Act; the Equal Pay Act of Nebraska; the Act Providing Equal Enjoyment of Public Accommodations; the Nebraska Fair Housing Act; the methods and procedures involved in handling discrimination complaints; the techniques and procedures used in interviews and investigations; and the resources pertinent to investigations and technical assistance.
  • Skills in: analyzing situations and information concerning employment and housing policies and practices and relating them to relevant statutes and case law; interviewing; conducting settlement discussions; and summarizing evidence into a concise, thorough, written report.
  • Ability to: operate a computer to perform job duties; work efficiently with limited supervision after initial training; plan, structure, and schedule investigative work for filed complaints; complete written reports within established policies and procedures; meet case production and timeliness goals; and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, and the public.
  • Driving between offices, or to conduct on-site visits, may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Interviewing individuals who wish to file charges of discrimination per Nebraska and Federal discrimination statutes.
  • Drafting charges and requesting information responsive to the charge filing.
  • Conducting detailed interviews and gathering evidence to assist in the determination of whether discrimination occurred.
  • Analyzing information and summarizing the information into a written case report.
  • Maintaining detailed records, both written and in the case management system.
  • Providing technical assistance to the public.
