Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, physical sciences, or equivalent technical experience (typically 8 years)
  • 8+ years working in environmental and/or waste programs, including 4+ years in the nuclear industry
  • Experience building and managing environmental or waste management programs (procedures, training, compliance systems)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Q security clearance.
  • Must be tested for the absence of any illegal drug prior to an offer of employment being made.
  • Must be willing to participate in a random drug testing program and may also be tested in the event of any incident causing injury or causing damage to property, or if it is determined that there is a reasonable suspicion the employee is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as SDC, CSP, ASP, REM, or similar
  • Experience managing radiological and hazardous waste
  • Experience in nuclear and/or manufacturing environments

Responsibilities

  • Lead all environmental and waste management activities for the Oak Ridge TMC, serving as the site’s primary expert on regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship.
  • Work directly with agencies such as TDEC, EPA, DOT, and occasionally DOE, ensuring our operations meet federal and state environmental requirements.
  • Guide permitting efforts, oversee hazardous and radiological waste programs, and provide clear regulatory direction to engineering and operations teams.
  • Contribute to budgets, staffing plans, and project proposals.
  • Maintain strong relationships with regulators and internal stakeholders.
  • Enhance or develop new programs and procedures.
  • Own programmatic oversight of environmental compliance, permitting, monitoring, and waste management.
  • Ensure we meet—and exceed—regulatory expectations, protect our workforce, and maintain excellence across mission‑critical operations.
  • Lead direct and indirect team members to meet corporate goals and milestones.
  • Plan, prioritize, and delegate work to meet project and compliance objectives.
  • Influence key decisions and shape environmental strategy at a critical time in our growth.
