The position supports the West Desert Test Center, which conducts chemical, biological, and other defense-related testing for the Department of Defense, government agencies, private industry, and foreign governments. The technician identifies and performs test methods that replicate environmental effects equipment may experience during its service life, supporting climatic and dynamic qualification testing of aerospace, chemical and biological defense, explosive weapon systems, and industrial products. The role covers the full environmental qualification lifecycle, from reviewing customer specifications and developing test plans through test execution, data analysis, inspections, and formal reporting. Work includes operating environmental chambers and dynamic test systems; installing instrumentation and test fixtures; conducting environmental and mechanical tests; troubleshooting equipment; and ensuring compliance with safety, customer, and program requirements. The position also involves handling explosive devices and chemical or biological simulants, and working with refrigeration systems and refrigerants. Significant portions of the work are performed outdoors. The position requires lifting loads weighing 50 pounds or more and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
