About The Position

AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices. This role supports the execution of environmental testing activities including thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, and acoustic testing. The position operates with moderate independence, contributing to test setup, execution, troubleshooting, and documentation while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The Technician II is expected to have a solid technical foundation and may assist in training. This position is based in our satellite production facility in Midland, TX, with full relocation provided.

Requirements

• 2+ years of relevant experience with an associate/trade school degree, or 3–5 years of relevant hands-on experience in lieu of formal education
• Experience supporting environmental testing or similar technical operations preferred
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test documentation
• Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Effective time management and task prioritization
• Willingness to learn and take initiative
• Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) or similar tools
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Ability to use hands and fingers to perform repetitive and precision tasks.
• Ability to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as required to perform job duties.
• Ability to communicate effectively, including talking and hearing.
• Ability to work in, on, around, and in proximity to large structures, equipment, and tooling.
• Ability to lift, push, and/or carry items up to 35 pounds as required.
• Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and equipment.
• Ability to work in and around tight or confined spaces.
• Ability to work in environments that may include exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and/or hazardous materials (e.g., carbon fiber).

Nice To Haves

• Experience with environmental test methods (thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, acoustic)
• Familiarity with test instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition systems
• Familiarity with test data systems and documentation tools preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform environmental testing including thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, acoustic, and related tests
• Set up and operate test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
• Follow established procedures, test plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Assist in planning and preparing test configurations, fixturing, and instrumentation setups
• Monitor tests and record data accurately; identify and report anomalies or deviations
• Troubleshoot basic to moderately complex test issues and support root cause investigations
• Document test results, non-conformances, and observations in accordance with quality standards
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements
• Support maintenance and calibration of test equipment as needed
• Assist in training and mentoring Technician I personnel
• Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to support test objectives
• Provide hands-on support to ensure successful and timely test execution
