About The Position

The Environmental Technician will inspect and maintain equipment, control and manage hazardous waste, collect samples, manage waste operations, and assist with regulatory compliance and other duties as needed. This role involves collecting water samples from industrial wastewater to assess pollution problems, operating various equipment such as pumps, vacuum equipment, oil spill booms, generators, and bobcats. The technician will also perform basic calculations, prepare and maintain necessary reports and records, and set up equipment or stations to monitor and collect from the manufacturing plant. The job requires strong reading comprehension, critical thinking, communication, observational, adaptability, technical aptitude, and precision skills. The company, Pepper Source, is a family-owned business specializing in custom sauces, seasonings, and dry coating systems for the poultry, frozen food, meat, and food service industries.

Requirements

  • Must have excellent reading comprehension skills in order to understand work-related documents.
  • Must possess strong listening, speaking, writing skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to convey information factually and clearly to the engineer or team leader when you can't resolve issues yourself.
  • Must be able to recognize and identify potential problems without delay.
  • Must be adaptable and able to work in a wide range of locations.
  • Requires technical expertise to operate equipment and instruments in the field.
  • Must be precise when working in the lab, analyzing numbers and recording outcomes.
  • Associate degree in a field related to environmental science or two years of on-the-job training by experience technical.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write in English.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Regularly required to physically perform the following: lift or move up to 50 pounds 20 times during the shift.
  • Stand and/or walk for the duration of the shift.
  • Use hands to finger, grip, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Talk and hear.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Possess close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
