About The Position

The Environmental Technician will be responsible for inspecting and maintaining equipment, controlling and managing hazardous waste, collecting samples, managing waste operations, and assisting with regulatory compliance. This role involves setting up equipment to monitor and collect data from the manufacturing plant, and preparing necessary reports and records. The technician will operate various types of equipment, including pumps, vacuum equipment, oil spill booms, generators, and bobcats, and will perform basic calculations. The position requires strong observational skills to identify potential problems, technical aptitude for operating equipment, and precision for accurate data collection and analysis.

  • Adaptability to work in a wide range of locations, travel to collect samples in remote locations, spend time in the lab, or work at odd hours.
  • Good writing skills for recording observations and findings, and writing reports about laboratory results.
  • Technical aptitude to operate equipment and instruments in the field.
  • Precision to maintain accuracy of results when working in the lab, analyzing numbers, and recording outcomes.
  • Associate degree in a field related to environmental science or two years of on-the-job training by experience technical.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write in English.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for the duration of the shift.
  • Must be able to use hands to finger, grip, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to talk and hear.
  • Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Collect water samples from industrial wastewater to assess pollution problems.
  • Operate light and heavy equipment including, but not limited to, pumps, vacuum, equipment, oil spill boom, generators, and bobcats.
  • Perform basic calculations.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary reports and records as required.
  • Set up equipment or stations to monitor and collect from the manufacturing plant.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment.
  • Control and manage hazardous waste.
  • Manage waste operations.
  • Assist with regulatory compliance.
