About The Position

AECOM is currently seeking an experienced Environmental Technician for employment near Portland, OR. In this role, you will primarily work with the Project Manager to support remedial operations maintenance and groundwater monitoring projects at client facilities. The candidate will ideally have experience in general construction and environmental remediation/sampling. Hands-on mechanical experience and interests preferred (e.g., pump repair, plumbing, construction, home repair, auto maintenance). Typical projects include groundwater treatment systems, soil remediation (in situ and ex situ), construction of support buildings/facilities, groundwater, and soil sampling.

Requirements

  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 2+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Due to the nature of this role, US citizenship is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record to travel between onsite locations. Successful candidate will have to pass a motor vehicle records check.
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • In order to receive a security badge at the client worksite for which you are being hired to perform services, you will be required to pass the client's background, medical, and drug screening requirements, which will be done after you have commenced employment and is a condition of your continued employment.
  • Ability to obtain the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 30 days of hire.
  • Majority of daily tasks require moving and working in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable environmental conditions including heat, cold, dust, noise, moisture, vibration, and chemicals to perform daily walk-throughs and inspections of the worksite. Also, a portion of the daily work is unaccompanied in isolated/remote areas.
  • Position requires occasional work in an environment with moving heavy equipment.
  • This position requires frequent (more than 50% of the workday) repetitive bending/stooping, to take groundwater level measurements, perform system bail downs, and to inspect and repair system lines. Power gripping/squeezing hand tools and levers to perform maintenance or reading of flow meters and removing nuts and bolts while replacing filters/pumps.
  • Position requires frequently lifting, carrying, and loading equipment weighing up to 50 lbs such as sample coolers and pumps without assistance and up to 75 lbs with assistance.
  • On occasion, the position requires working with arms above shoulder level and using portable ladders.
  • Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment, including but not limited to gloves, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes/boots, hard hat, hearing protection, face shield, and fire-retardant clothing (FRC).

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical skills and hands-on skills.
  • Experience operating full-size pickup trucks.
  • Experience with various media sampling (soil, groundwater, and waste) and monitor well pumps/maintenance.
  • Experience with health and safety programs, and effective communication skills (verbal, field notes, etc.).
  • Current OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training/Refresher is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Managing data and tracking operating parameters.
  • Performing routine fieldwork (such as environmental multi-media sampling, operations, maintenance, and inspection of equipment) working under close supervision for the first six months.
  • Performing routine systems maintenance and operation tasks in support of project staff.
  • Various operations and maintenance activities associated with remediation systems involving extraction of hydrocarbon material and impacted vapor and groundwater, performing recovery system and well pump maintenance as needed, groundwater monitoring, and recording accurate field data for the project team.
  • Other activities may include health and safety coordination, setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications, and maintaining proper project documentation.
  • Subcontractor oversight.
  • Working with field geologists and engineers on various projects at the site, facilitating permits, etc.
  • Position will require OSHA 40-hour hazardous site worker training.
