About The Position

The Port of Québec is seeking an Environmental Technician to ensure the proper operation of environmental monitoring equipment, conduct inspections, and implement preventive and corrective measures. This role involves collaborating on environmental monitoring activities, modernizing air quality and noise monitoring networks, and integrating new technologies with innovation partners. Requirements

  • Hold a DEC (College Diploma) in Electronics Technology, Instrumentation and Control, Environmental Technology, or a related field.
  • Have at least three (3) years of experience in similar roles, including significant experience in instrumentation and control.
  • Have knowledge of various sampling protocols.
  • Have a good command of spoken and written French and beginner-level English.
  • Demonstrate a strong team-oriented mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and/or the maritime sector.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the general maintenance of all air quality monitoring, noise monitoring, and gull control equipment.
  • Implement and monitor a preventive maintenance program, including associated procedures and records.
  • Calibrate measurement instruments in accordance with calibration and maintenance methods and procedures.
  • Identify, investigate, and diagnose equipment failures, irregularities, and malfunctions, and promptly implement preventive and corrective measures.
  • Analyze exceedance and malfunction alarms from monitoring instruments.
  • Enter maintenance, repair, and calibration activities into Isovision.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of equipment spare parts.
  • Update station maps and descriptive data sheets.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of calibration equipment and arrange for its external annual certification.
  • Identify sites for the mobile station and dismantle, relocate, and install monitoring stations when required.
  • Collaborate in the installation of state-of-the-art environmental monitoring equipment with various suppliers and innovation partners.
  • Conduct monitoring of environmental projects or work sites and report any incidents observed in the field.
  • Prepare the sampling schedule, carry out sampling according to the schedule (soil, water, noise, and ambient air), and replace filters and filter canisters at all stations 2 to 3 times per week.
  • Prepare sampling equipment for the weekend replacement technician.
  • Receive materials from the laboratory and record them in the inventory.
  • Compile the week’s transshipment activities, prepare samples, and request laboratory analyses.
  • Validate data collected by monitoring equipment and reject data that do not meet established standards.
  • Produce the monthly validation report.
  • Perform site inspections and ensure the implementation of preventive and corrective measures.
  • Prepare technical notes.
  • Participate in environmental audits.
  • Compile field data and laboratory results into data files and calculate results.
  • Plan the annual budget for replacement parts, laboratory analyses, replacement needs, and certain special projects.
  • Ensure that vehicles are maintained by the maintenance department.
  • Verify that monitoring equipment data are displayed correctly on the website.
  • Review invoices received from various suppliers.
  • Provide support to their supervisor and other team members.
  • Contribute, through their attitude, to creating a work environment conducive to teamwork.
  • Comply with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Perform all other related duties.
