About The Position

APTIM currently has an opening for Environmental Technician for our Midland, TX location. This is primarily a field based position supporting our group's environmental assessment and remediation projects.

Requirements

  • Experience as a wastewater treatment plant operator with a minimum from the State of Texas or Four (4) years of verifiable experience in groundwater treatment plant operation. A Class C license from the State of Texas may substitute for two years of verifiable experience in groundwater treatment plant operation.
  • Must be based in the Midland/Odessa area or able to relocate there.
  • Local travel may be required.
  • Must be able to work independently on hazardous waste sites and meet the 40-hour OSHA physical requirements (includes wearing PPE and a full-face respirator).
  • Must be able to work in the field in all types of field conditions/weather.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • High school diploma, technical school and/or some college.
  • Must possess valid Texas driver's license with a clean record.
  • Lifting and physical work will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the groundwater treatment system.
  • Perform scheduled shutdown periods.
  • Conduct all routine maintenance.
  • Procure treatment chemicals, materials and equipment as needed.
  • General troubleshooting duties to identify and correct equipment malfunctions.
  • Shut down all pumps and process equipment in the fail-safe mode if there is a power failure.
  • Conduct influent/effluent sampling.
  • Performs other tasks related to operation and maintenance of the groundwater treatment plant as assigned.
  • Collect environmental samples in the field.
  • Collect field data including extraction rates, run time, chemical dosage rate, and the amount of waste generated.
  • Calibrate and use technical instruments.
  • Work may periodically involve installation, and operation and maintenance of remediation equipment (pumps, process equipment, piping install etc.) and supervising other field tasks such as plugging and abandoning monitoring wells.
  • Work will consist of straightforward tasks using established procedures, with the potential for solving routine problems as encountered.
  • Work may often involve use of complex instrumentation or equipment and may include installation, calibration and/or maintenance of equipment or instrumentation associated with a particular job site on an as-needed basis.
  • The Technician will be expected to apply basic technical skills and knowledge to complete the assigned work and will be expected to manage his/her own time to meet deadlines set by others.
  • Maintain a record of equipment servicing and maintenance, and provides updates to the project manager regarding system performance and status.
  • Develop and maintain records either manually or by computer methods.
  • Coordinate waste collection, profiling and disposal at the site.
