We are seeking an experienced Environmental Technician III to support our industrial services and emergency response operations. This hands-on role involves fieldwork, hazardous and non-hazardous material cleanup, environmental sampling and monitoring, and the safe operation of specialized equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3–5 years of experience in industrial services and emergency response operations
  • Possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record, required
  • Active 40-hour HAZWOPER Certificate and any applicable refreshers
  • Confined Space Entry (CSE) training and certification
  • Demonstrated proficiency in equipment commonly utilized on industrial service projects, such as water blasters, pumps, skid steers, mini excavators, hand tools, and air-powered tools
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise Industrial Services work
  • Ability to travel periodically as part of the Emergency Response team
  • Possess or have access to reliable means of transportation on a 24-hour basis
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Ability to function in work environments that sometimes include high heat; high humidity; extreme cold; roadway traffic hazards; on water (boat operations) and confined spaces
  • Must be comfortable wearing a full-face respirator for extended periods of time
  • Adequate vision and hearing to safely see teammates hand signals and hear warning communication in low light
  • Substantial repetitive movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers (including reaching, grasping, twisting, pushing, and pulling)
  • Walking on uneven surfaces & climbing stairs/ladders
  • Semi-frequent crouching, bending, stooping and twisting, occasionally in tight spaces
  • Sitting in a vehicle for up to three hours straight
  • Working while standing during a 12-hour workday
  • Frequently lifting up to 10 lbs. over an 8-hour period and occasionally up to 50 lbs. over a four-hour period
  • Occasionally lifting 3-6” diameter hoses that weigh approximately 20 pounds over the head onto hose racks
  • Managing a 55-gallon drum containing approximately 400 pounds of material onto a drum dolly, then moving the drum using the dolly

Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead and participate a wide variety of industrial service teams and projects at client sites regularly, including tank cleanings, water blasting, facility decontaminations and cleanings
  • Participate in all designated waste management responsibilities at client sites, adhering to proper waste handling protocols and accurately completing documentation.
  • Participate as lead tech onsite field support and for the rapid response and cleanup of hazardous and non-hazardous material releases.
  • Perform chemical neutralization and cleaning of industrial and manufacturing equipment
  • Participate in onsite Emergency Response (ER) clean-up activities for hazardous and nonhazardous material, loading and unloading ER equipment, and decontaminating equipment efficiently. Actively participate on the Emergency Response (ER) team approximately one week of being on-call 24/7 every five to eight weeks
  • Inspect hazardous and non-hazardous waste shipments to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in confined space entry (CSE) protocols and serve during the cleaning and decontamination of both solid and liquid hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
  • Participate in the Tailgate Safety Meetings, review the Site Safety and Health Plan (SSHP) that summarizes the hazards of the proposed work, and follow appropriate PPE and other safety procedures. Suggest changes to Site supervisor as appropriate
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external clients in a courteous and professional manner
  • Resolve conflicts appropriately, accept responsibility for decision making, follow through on all commitments, and utilize internal and external resources properly
  • Conduct and advise sampling and monitoring of hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes.
  • Conduct and advise confined space entry in accordance with confined space permits
  • Identify and appropriately package hazardous and non-hazardous wastes for transportation and disposal.
  • Properly don PPE up to and including level A PPE, perform industrial services, doff PPE, conduct decontamination, and properly dispose of contaminated PPE.
  • Use environmental and safety monitoring equipment including 4 gas meters, lumex, draeger tubes, etc.
  • Conduct and advise soil, groundwater and vapor sampling for laboratory analysis.
  • Prepare daily diaries, reports, field sketches, post-incident closure reports of all project activity to ensure records are accurate and complete.
  • Provide support to the waste transport and disposal (T&D) team for both emergency response (ER) projects and regular waste T&D services. Efficiently organize waste disposal operations in collaboration with internal and external clients to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Properly maintain and train with ER and Oil Spill Removal Organization (OSRO) equipment so that equipment is properly used and in working condition.
  • Communicate with Project Managers to improve Emergency Response (ER) techniques, operations, and functionalities, ensuring Bay West sustains successful ER service delivery.
  • Occasionally required to perform out-of-town projects lasting 2-5 days.
  • Participate in and deliver training to the team related to skid steer, forklift, pickup truck and trailer operation, emergency response equipment operation, and other equipment
