About The Position

This is a temporary position with the NC Aquatic Weed Control Program, located at 512 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh - Wake County, with the Department of Environmental Quality. The position involves a blend of indoor and outdoor work, requiring travel in state vehicles and overnight stays. Temporary employees may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) if they work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week. Requirements

  • Associate's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in environmental or natural resources management work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have NC driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Operation and maintenance of equipment, including power tools, gas-powered engines, high-pressure sprayers, backpack sprayers, and brush cutters.
  • Operating motorboats and vehicles, including towing trailers.
  • Assisting other staff with data entry, GIS work, writing technical reports, and writing management plans (approximately 50% of the time).
  • Assisting other staff with environmental management, including conducting herbicide applications and aquatic vegetation surveys.
