About The Position

Orlando Health is a large healthcare system with 15 hospitals and numerous affiliated services, employing thousands of team members and physicians. The Environmental Services Technician Level I plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe, clean, and healing environment for patients and staff. This position is responsible for daily cleaning tasks, ensuring timely room turnaround for patient throughput, and upholding the principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The technician is an essential contributor to the overall cleanliness, disinfection, infection prevention, and customer experience within the organization.

Requirements

  • Communicates, reads, and writes in standard English.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates effective use of computers and/or mobile devices for daily job performance activities.
  • Identifies and utilizes appropriate resources to ensure identified problems or concerns are followed through and resolved.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of facility safety requirements.
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to set up/dismantle beds for cleaning according to department cleaning procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate orally or in writing openly and candidly.
  • Respectfully listens to the viewpoints and ideas of others.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to common inquiries or complaints from customers, using appropriate designated engagement techniques.
  • Cleans and disinfects patient rooms and ancillary areas, including bathrooms, public areas, corridors, medication storage rooms, and any other areas requiring attention, using designated chemicals and procedures.
  • Accesses and uses department-related technology systems, such as Bed Management systems, demonstrating good working knowledge.
  • Replenishes supplies, removes bio-medical waste, trash, and soiled linen, and changes cubicle/window curtains as needed.
  • Completes patient room and bathroom cleaning daily to accommodate discharges/admissions and maintain cleanliness standards, utilizing approved procedures and Bed Management systems where applicable.
  • Performs duties demonstrating working knowledge of healthcare cleaning and disinfecting principles, proper chemical use, equipment handling, and labor-saving products.
  • Adheres to all organization safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines and standards, promoting a culture of safety.
  • Operates UV disinfection machine as needed.
  • Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including those aimed at improving customer experience and cleanliness metrics.
  • Follows all infection prevention practices, including cleaning and disinfection protocols, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, and proper donning/doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Recognizes and adheres to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
  • Reports unsafe situations and submits Engineering Service Requests for repairs.
