About The Position
Waste Connections is hiring a hands-on Environmental Technician to support landfill gas systems, leachate collection, and compliance operations across two key sites. This role requires a mechanically inclined, detail-oriented individual passionate about environmental stewardship.
Requirements
- Ability to read and understand technical diagrams and schematics
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Leadership mindset with the ability to direct field repairs and contractors
Nice To Haves
- Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
- Mechanical or technical background
- Experience with compliance systems (e.g., iAuditor)
Responsibilities
- Monitor and tune landfill gas well fields
- Perform general well field maintenance (extend wells, pull pumps, run new lines)
- Assist with leachate collection system operations
- Conduct routine inspections and take well field readings
- Support compliance tasks including monthly reports, site observations, and inspections
- Collaborate with gas plant technicians and landfill operators on daily operations
- Identify and mitigate environmental hazards (e.g., leachate seeps)
- Lead or assist in repairs to reduce environmental risks
- Track and support contractor work and post-audit corrections
- Interpret and work from technical drawings, schematics, and diagrams
- Assist with ordering parts and understanding budgeting processes
