About The Position

The Environmental Services Tech II is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment within the hospital. This role involves various cleaning tasks, including floor care, waste management, and sanitization. The position also requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to support various hospital services. Cross-training in areas like discharge room cleans and OR cleaning is expected to meet hospital needs during peak periods or staffing shortages. The role also emphasizes professional growth and adherence to attendance policies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
  • 1-2 years experience with prior housekeeping experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills preferred
  • Able to operate small electrical equipment i.e., vacuum cleaners
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English as related to the performance of the essential job activities outlined (including reading and comprehending chemical labels and other safety materials)
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For lifts over 35 pounds, lifting equipment is expected to be used or lift with at least one other associate when available.

Responsibilities

  • Scrub, strip, polish, and refinish floors using appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Operate various types of cleaning equipment, including mechanical and electrical devices like ringers, vacuums, electric floor machines, and sweepers.
  • Clean or sanitize after emergency spills as requested.
  • Analyze floor or carpet conditions and determine proper cleaning techniques, following department processes.
  • Maintain hard surface floors and carpets following department processes.
  • Exhibit timely and satisfactory completion of all job assignments.
  • Exercise initiative by seeking additional tasks from group leader or other associates when time permits.
  • Use and maintain equipment, keeping it clean and in good repair.
  • Keep work area in an orderly, clean, and safe condition.
  • Dispose of waste in a timely manner to assure hospital cleanliness.
  • Collect hazardous and medical waste according to hospital processes/DOT/RSPA training provided.
  • Replace and transport sharps containers to the waste staging area.
  • Collect soiled linen.
  • Remove and dispose of rubbish from selected areas, following safety guidelines.
  • Separate regular and recycle trash according to procedure.
  • Operate waste compactors safely and efficiently.
  • Clean and/or sanitize all garbage/waste disposal containers.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to satisfying customer needs and exceeding customer expectations.
  • Display patience and tact when dealing with other hospital personnel.
  • Present the department in a positive manner to all contacts.
  • Maintain a courteous and pleasant attitude to patients, families, and other contacts.
  • Maintain confidential patient and departmental information.
  • Utilize AIDET with both internal and external customers, meeting system goals.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and resolve interpersonal conflicts constructively when dealing with fellow associates.
  • Demonstrate a positive, supportive attitude to patient families and other personnel in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Arrange furniture for meetings, workshops, and community affairs according to specifications.
  • Relocate furniture, equipment, etc., as requested.
  • Complete terminal cleans as needed.
  • Complete discharge room cleans following hospital processes.
  • Complete OR cleaning following hospital processes.
  • Attend all mandatory departmental and hospital meetings and in-services.
  • Complete annual CBTs required.
  • Follow written department goals and objectives, and review annually with Manager.
  • Seek education and learning experiences in areas of identified growth needs and review progress during annual evaluation.
  • Maintain proper attendance requirements outlined in the Hospital Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Plan for special days off in advance and submit written requests for time off to department management for approval per departmental guidelines.
  • Request PTO time in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Provide adequate notice to department management of absences, and in accordance with departmental policy, call two hours prior to the beginning of the shift.
