As an Environmental Services Technician, you will be responsible for keeping patient rooms and all areas of the hospital clean and sanitized to protect everyone from potential illness or injury due to infectious diseases or other hazards. This role is crucial for the safety and comfort of patients, visitors, and staff, contributing to a well-maintained facility with compassionate staff.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with others as part of the patient care team.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, or dusting.
  • Use specialized equipment and techniques to further sanitize the facility.
  • Learn and adhere to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials, including bodily fluids or sharp objects.
  • Refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, and other supplies.
  • Deliver clean linens.
  • Complete daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements.
  • Display safe chemical use and equipment handling for all items within the healthcare environment.
  • Adhere to all organization safety, risk management and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety.
  • Actively participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
  • Maintain cleaning cart(s), supplies, and equipment, as outlined in the Standard Work cart set up.
  • Remove waste and transport to the appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste stream handling (i.e. regulated medical, recycle, solid, and hazardous) in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow all infection prevention practices, including proper cleaning and disinfection protocols, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, proper donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Recognize and adhere to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
  • Practice critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrate personal accountability.
  • Identify and utilize appropriate resources to ensure identified problems or concerns are followed through and resolved.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of facility safety requirements.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.
  • Perform tasks according to various facility needs, including conference room set ups, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging of cubicle curtains (as requested).
  • Mentor new Environmental Services Tech I employees (as requested).
