About The Position

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is seeking an Environmental Supervisor for the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR) at its Central Office in downtown Columbus, Ohio. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of the voluntary action program (VAP), including oversight of No Further Action Letters (NFAs), Technical Assistance requests like Memorandum of Agreements (MOAs), and post-CNS modifications and remedy changes. You will supervise staff activities, establish work assignments, and coordinate/schedule/track work to ensure program commitments are met. You will also assist with day-to-day coordination with other divisions within the agency and with other governmental agencies, including ODOD and U. S. EPA. Additionally, you will help develop and implement guidelines to ensure compliance with agency and program policies, procedures, and state and federal laws and rules. This position involves evaluating and determining training needs for new and existing staff, directing staff training per Professional Development Plans (PDPs), interviewing and recommending candidates for hiring, and conducting periodic performance evaluations. You will provide technical assistance to consultants, government officials, industry, and citizens on state and federal regulations pertaining to the VAP, and participate in meetings, conferences, and training courses as appropriate.

Requirements

  • 5 years of training or experience in a position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology &/or other comparable science field &/or mathematics &/or history &/or archaeology (i.e., latter two subject areas pertain only to Department of Transportation) evaluating & approving complex engineering design plans, conducting most sensitive environmental surveillance activities &/or environmental pollution compliance monitoring inspections, investigating complex public health &/or environmental pollution problems, initiating complex enforcement actions, or assisting in planning, developing & maintaining specific environmental projects & programs.
  • 6 months of training or experience as a lead worker.
  • Training and/or experience must correspond to the environmental area to be assigned.
  • Positions in Environmental Protection Agency's solid waste program, excluding those in solid waste planning unit, also require a valid Ohio certificate of registration as a sanitarian or a valid Ohio certificate as a sanitarian-in-training.
  • OR 12 months of experience as an Environmental Specialist 2, 85862.
  • OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
