About The Position

This position involves assisting with environmental data collection and water sampling. The role requires collecting water samples from District reservoirs such as Cedar Creek, Richland Chambers, and Lake Palestine, as well as their associated watersheds. The Environmental Technician will also be responsible for maintaining sampling equipment, performing data analysis, investigating pollution concerns, and documenting findings. Applicants should reside near the TRWD Cedar Creek office in Trinidad, TX.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Valid Texas driver’s license
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift 40 lbs.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office with basic knowledge of Word and Excel
Proficiency in water quality sampling and current SWQM procedures within one year of starting this position
Enrolled in an accredited 4-year college or university majoring in environmental science, biology, geography, engineering, or related field and working towards a degree
Ability to swim and walk on uneven terrain for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

Experience hauling a boat trailer
Boat operation experience
Experience with in-situ water quality analyzers
Water laboratory techniques and procedures
Experience using water quality sondes
Two (2) years of experience in a related job plus a High School Diploma/GED may substitute for being enrolled in a relevant college program

Responsibilities

Collect water samples from lakes, tributaries and intake structures for field and lab analysis
Deliver samples to laboratory for analysis
Calibration of water quality sondes and record keeping
Prepare and manage equipment necessary for sampling and analysis
Perform data analysis and updates using water quality data
Investigate pollution concerns, collect samples, and document findings
Track and document data from collection through final electronic storage
Scan environmental documents for records management
Perform other duties as required
