About The Position

This is professional services and scientific work of a supervisory nature in environmental protection, including program management and performing complex technical evaluations. This position is responsible for administering the pretreatment program for the State of Maine, performing the duties of a compliance inspector, and supervising two compliance inspector positions, one overboard discharge inspector position, and two seasonal conservation aides. The specific duties include: Determining compliance with licenses issued under the Maine Pollutant Discharge Elimination System and Waste Discharge License programs. Coordinating with permitting staff on compliance requirements for new permits. Conducting compliance inspections and oversight of 11 community approved industrial pretreatment programs and 13 individual industrial user facilities. Conducting compliance inspections Participating as a presenter at various conferences and meetings. Coordinating enforcement activities with enforcement staff. Representing the CMRO office compliance staff at management meetings. Managing progress with work plans Participating in planning and development meetings. This position involves substantial field work and may include out-of-state travel.

Requirements

  • An eight (8) year combination of education and/or experience in environmental science or related area
  • At least two (2) years of supervisory or program management/administration experience
  • At least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework
