About The Position

This is a responsible environmental health position that conducts activities for programs in the Environmental Public Health (EPH) department based on state and local codes. This position is primarily responsible for activities related to the On-site Sewage Tank Disposal System (OSTDS) program, the Mobile Home and Recreational Vehicle Parks Program, and Performance Based Treatment Systems, Community Operating Treatment Systems and Service-Related Systems. This role involves conducting site evaluations, inspections, plan reviews, issuing permits, investigating complaints, completing documentation, initiating enforcement actions, and performing data entry and record maintenance. Travel is required for these duties. • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
• Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
• All Florida Department of Health positions require the incumbent to be able to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Nice To Haves

• Certified in Onsite Sewage Tank Disposal System (OSTDS) or Certified Environmental Health Professional (CEHP) and certified pool inspector within six months of employment (Florida Statute: 381.0101).

Responsibilities

• Conducting site evaluations and inspections (routine and repair related) for OSTDS.
• Conducting plan reviews for OSTDS.
• Writing and issuing permits for OSTDS.
• Inspecting and approving installations for OSTDS.
• Reviewing and/or investigating complaints related to OSTDS.
• Completing follow-up for any complaints or investigations related to OSTDS.
• Developing a schedule and sending Renewal Notices 90 days prior to a permit’s expiration date for OSTDS.
• Completing proper documentation for OSTDS.
• Initiating enforcement actions per policy for OSTDS.
• Conducting inspections (initial, routine, and follow-up) for Mobile Home and Recreational Vehicle Parks Program.
• Issuing permits for Mobile Home and Recreational Vehicle Parks Program.
• Reviewing and/or investigating complaints related to mobile homes and recreational vehicle parks.
• Completing follow-up for any complaints or investigations related to mobile homes and recreational vehicle parks.
• Completing proper documentation for Mobile Home and Recreational Vehicle Parks Program.
• Conducting inspections (initial, routine, and follow-up) for Performance Based Treatment Systems, Community Operating Treatment Systems and Service-Related Systems.
• Issuing permits for Performance Based Treatment Systems, Community Operating Treatment Systems and Service-Related Systems.
• Reviewing and/or investigating complaints related to Performance Based Treatment Systems, Community Operating Treatment Systems and Service-Related Systems.
• Developing a schedule and sending Renewal Notices 90 days prior to a permit’s expiration date for Performance Based Treatment Systems, Community Operating Treatment Systems and Service-Related Systems.
