About The Position

This is a professional team-oriented intermediate level position under the supervision of the Environmental Supervisor IV that assists with the coordination and implementation of the agricultural component of the Basin Management Action Plan (BMAP) and Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) programs established by the Florida Watershed Restoration Act, delivering Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) Best Management Practices (BMP) Program, working in close cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), water management districts (WMDs), soil and water conservation districts (SWCDs), and private landowners.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of experience in agriculture or environmental science; or
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and one and a half (1.5) years of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida; or
  • A bachelor's degree (4 years) or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in agriculture or environmental science and six (6) months of experience in agriculture or environmental science.
  • Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.

  • Ability to lift, maneuver and carry up to 50 pounds, when needed, as part of the duties of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Duties may require regular and recurring physical exertion related to conservation work including walking on rough terrain or slick areas, jumping furrows, climbing steep banks and / or crouching and work in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to assigned sites within established BMAPs and perform detailed on-site irrigation system evaluations on commercial groves, farms, and nurseries.
  • Work in cooperation with FDACS - BMP field staff and assist by performing pre and post evaluations for cost share projects.
  • Accurately document the field data collection results on approved FDACS templates.
  • Upload field data into the MIL database and / or other designated platforms.
  • Generate grower reports reflecting audit results.
  • Communicate with management on a regular basis to prioritize duties.
  • Attend all meetings, complete all assigned training and administrative duties as directed.
  • Direct and train new MIL technicians as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
