About The Position

Advanced Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is hiring for an Environmental Specialist in Richland, WA. This position will support Navarro-ATL, which operates, manages, and maintains the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. The role involves providing environmental support, promoting the Navarro-ATL Environmental Program, and offering technical expertise in regulatory areas such as RCRA, TSCA, CWA, CAA, or NEPA. The specialist will identify improvement opportunities, participate in issue resolution, and ensure Environmental Program Principles are integrated into laboratory activities.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in related discipline and 7 years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to government contract requirements and/or clearance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of air, water, and hazardous radiological waste environmental regulations, permit compliance, monitoring techniques and methodologies.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with government agencies, preferably with the US Department of Energy and the Washington State Departments of Ecology and Health, EPA, and NRC.
  • Experience recognizing and applying a diverse array of environmental regulations, including NEPA, to support facility upgrade projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide complex environmental technical support for programmatic activities, permitting and field compliance.
  • Provide environmental expertise in support of work planning, waste acceptance, and technical document development.
  • Support interactions with regulatory agencies to facilitate work progress, provide required notifications, and respond to inspections.
  • Participate in development of strategies for permitting.
  • Procedure development; author/own program plans and other procedures.
  • Provide environmental oversight and complete assessments of complex activities and subcontractor performance.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and develop technical documents or calculations on environmental topics.
  • Provide regulatory analysis and implementation strategies as needed to support sustained 222-S laboratory compliance.
  • Ensure projects and facility operations achieve environmental compliance and stewardship.
  • Attend site-wide meetings; correspond with management, site contractors and regulators.
  • Other duties as assigned.
