The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is a regulatory organization committed to protecting the environment and public health by ensuring compliance with federal and state laws. This position is within the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR) at the Northeast District Office in Summit County. The role involves performing district site coordinator and RCRA Inspector duties for hazardous waste facilities undergoing site assessment and cleanup through Ohio’s Voluntary Action Program (VAP) and other state and federal programs. The specialist will review, prepare, and/or implement work plans, sampling, reports, and technical memoranda associated with assigned sites/properties. They will investigate complaints, assess sites of contaminated environmental or waste-related media to verify compliance with existing permits and/or state and federal regulations, and determine the effectiveness of existing remedial remedies. The role also includes coordinating with agency personnel and other state and federal agencies to assist responsible parties and hazardous waste facilities with non-compliance issues and identifying and initiating necessary enforcement actions when necessary. Additionally, the specialist will provide technical assistance to agency and state legal staff, consultants, and the regulated community on compliance with requirements in DERR’s hazardous waste and cleanup programs.
