About The Position

The State of Ohio is a drug-free workplace which prohibits the use of marijuana (recreational marijuana/non-medical cannabis). The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in our Division of Drinking and Ground Waters at our Northeast District Office in Summit County. In your new position, you will evaluate public water systems (PWS) with field inspections and consultations with owners and operators. You will participate in monitoring activities such as reviewing operational reports and water analysis to ensure compliance with drinking water regulations. You are going to perform investigations of PWS, including proposed well sites, complaints, operational problems, and emergency situations. You will review the implementation of drinking water regulations and ensure the enforcement of regulations – as well as participate and provide input on policies and procedures used in the implementation of the public drinking water program. As an environmental specialist, you will provide technical guidance for public officials, owners and operators of PWS, and the public in matters relating to public drinking water. You will also assist in the preparation of legal actions and the presentation of testimony at hearings and court cases. You are also going to compile data and maintain records on PWS.

Requirements

  • 12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
  • OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology or hydrogeology &/or other comparable physical or health science field &/or mathematics which included responsibility for conducting compliance monitoring surveys &/or inspections/reviews or investigations, or review of permit applications relative to oil & gas well operations or injection, annular disposal & saltwater injection wells & enhanced recovery projects or coal mining, or solid/hazardous waste sites or industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers, or collecting, compiling & preparing various environmental assessments, evaluations, reports & related documents.
  • Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
  • OR baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science fields, with training to be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
