SEIU Environmental Svcs Worker
About The Position
Performs general heavy and light cleaning and housekeeping services in University buildings, including residence halls, hospitals, and administration and academic buildings. The role may involve operating housekeeping and floor-maintenance equipment; cleaning and disinfecting rooms and surfaces; caring for floors, furniture, rugs, windows, and other fixtures; handling and transporting trash; cleaning kitchens and dining areas; and performing miscellaneous custodial duties. The worker maintains the cleanliness of the work storage closet and equipment and performs other comparable duties as assigned. The role requires the ability to understand and carry out oral instructions. Work involves continuous standing, walking, bending, and reaching; handling heavy and medium-weight materials, equipment, and supplies; and normal exposure to refuse, dirt, dust, detergents, body wastes, and odors indoors and outdoors. Occasional exposure to infection and infectious diseases is possible.

Responsibilities
- Perform general heavy and light cleaning and housekeeping services in University buildings.
- Operate housekeeping and floor-maintenance equipment to strip, wax, and buff floors; wet mop, dry mop, sweep, and dust floors.
- Clean and disinfect rooms and surfaces, including fogging rooms and washing floors, walls, furniture, and fixtures with germicidal detergents.
- Wash walls, ceilings, stairs, windows, blinds, screens, draperies, and curtains; clean overhead equipment; vacuum rugs, furniture, and draperies; and clean, dust, and wax furniture.
- Make empty beds and distribute linen.
- Empty wastebaskets, collect trash from designated areas, and transport trash to the compactor area.
- Wash large trash cans and wastebaskets and clean blackboards, doors, kitchens, and dining areas.
- Perform custodial duties such as moving equipment or furniture, tightening doorknobs and latch plates, adjusting traverse rods and brackets, cleaning elevator door tracks, changing light bulbs, and shoveling snow.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the work storage closet and equipment.
- Perform other similar duties requiring comparable skill and responsibility as assigned.
