About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas for Sanford Health patients, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The role may involve cleaning patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The technician will wear proper protective equipment, keep supplies stocked, and may assist in laundry areas. Access to and appropriate use of pagers and other technology is required. The position involves significant physical activity, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials, with the ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50 lbs and push/pull variable weights. The employee will be on their feet for most of the shift and may be exposed to noise from equipment. Work hours may vary based on patient needs, including overtime, call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • No formal education is required.
  • Must fulfill annual continuing education requirements (departmental meetings, safety education, mandatory in-services).
  • Knowledge in general day-to-day housekeeping tasks in various departments/areas of the facility.
  • Ability to follow cleaning policy and procedure for each department.
  • Ability to follow guidelines in the use of cleaning/sanitation chemicals.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to provide a clean and sterile environment.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps.
  • Ability to be on feet for the majority of the shift.
  • Ability to work on some holidays and weekends, up to every other weekend.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.
  • Empty waste baskets.
  • Sweep, scrub, wax, or polish floors using brooms, mops, or powered equipment.
  • Clean patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
  • Wear proper protective equipment.
  • Keep storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Use pagers and other technology appropriately.
  • Assist in laundry areas as appropriate.
  • Use Sanford technology applications if available.
  • Perform physical activities including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials.
  • Lift and/or move up to 40-50 lbs.
  • Push/pull variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps.
  • Be on feet for the majority of the shift.
  • Work overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays as needed.
