About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This is a full-time position with 40 hours a week, involving rotating weekends and holidays, with evening shifts from 4:30 pm to 1:00 am. The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment. Cleaning may occur in various locations such as patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The technician must wear proper protective equipment, keep storage and equipment tidy, and may have access to pagers and technology. Responsibilities may also include assisting in laundry areas and using technology applications depending on location and program availability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
  • Ability to use computer.
  • Prior cleaning experience is helpful.
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods and cleaning chemicals is helpful.
  • Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas.
  • Following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.
  • Emptying waste baskets.
  • Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors.
  • Using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
  • Cleaning patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
  • Wearing proper protective equipment.
  • Keeping storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Using pagers and other technology appropriately when needed.
  • Assisting in laundry areas as appropriate.
  • Using technology applications depending on location and availability.
  • Performing physical activities including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials.
  • Lifting and/or moving up to 40-50lbs and pushing/pulling variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps.
  • Being on feet for the majority of the shift.
  • Working overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays as needed.
