About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. This role involves tasks such as emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The technician will demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment, applying them to ensure a clean and sterile environment. Responsibilities may include cleaning various locations such as patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The position requires wearing appropriate protective equipment, keeping storage areas stocked and tidy, and potentially assisting in laundry areas. Access to and appropriate use of pagers and other technology may be required. The role involves significant physical activity, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials, with the ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50 lbs and push/pull variable weight limits. The individual will be on their feet for the majority of their shift and may be exposed to noise from equipment. Work hours can vary depending on patient/resident needs, potentially including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
  • Ability to use computer.
  • Prior cleaning experience is helpful.
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods, and cleaning chemicals is helpful.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas.
  • Following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.
  • Emptying waste baskets.
  • Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
  • Applying knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment.
  • Cleaning patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
  • Wearing proper protective equipment.
  • Keeping storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Using pagers and other technology appropriately when needed.
  • Assisting in laundry areas as appropriate.
  • Using technology applications if available.
  • Performing physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials.
  • Lifting and/or moving up to 40-50 lbs.
  • Pushing/pulling variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps.
  • Being on feet for the majority of the shift.
  • Working varying hours including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
