About The Position

Mercyhealth is seeking an Environmental Services Technician to join their team on the 1st shift. This role is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment within assigned areas, adhering to strict infection prevention standards, and managing supplies and equipment. The technician will perform a variety of cleaning tasks, handle waste disposal according to regulations, and may be involved in special projects. This position requires attention to detail, knowledge of cleaning chemicals and procedures, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous cleaning experience helpful.
  • Knowledgeable on correct chemicals used for different pathogens.
  • Knowledgeable on correct chemicals used for different pathogens.
  • Uses proper personal protective equipment including safety goggles when needed.
  • Reads directions carefully and asks supervisor when in doubt.
  • Is knowledgeable and can identify various bed types.
  • Utilizes bed tracking phone/pager, places bed in EPIC and removes when bed has been completed.
  • Responds to phone/pager call from supervisor within 5 minutes.
  • Reports phone/pager problems to supervisor.
  • Logs out of EPIC.
  • Ensures dismissal rooms are ready for the next patient.
  • Asks supervisor or lead when in doubt.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough cleaning of assigned areas including furniture, tile, fixtures, windows, sinks, tubs, toilets, mirrors, showers, etc.
  • Perform high and low dusting of TVs, lights, walls, mop floors, elevators and stairs, clean door frames, ceiling vents, and vacuum carpet.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Observe all isolation procedures and Infect Prevention Standards, and be knowledgeable on correct chemicals used for different pathogens.
  • Maintain EVS closet, EVS cart, and all equipment in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Report any safety hazards or equipment in need of repair to supervisor and/or Facilities.
  • Maintain correct amount of supplies and replenish paper, soap supplies, and hand sanitizer.
  • Hang cubicles/drapes according to department policy.
  • Perform special project assignments, including coordinating specifics such as contacting affected departments and posting informational signs.
  • Move furniture, supplies, and equipment as requested, adhering to departmental safety and lifting procedures, and seeking assistance when in doubt.
  • Properly mix and store chemicals to achieve correct dilution ratio, use proper personal protective equipment, and use wet floor signs to block off work areas.
  • Make beds in accordance with specific area needs, utilize bed tracking phone/pager, place bed in EPIC and remove when completed, and ensure dismissal rooms are ready for the next patient.
  • Use Xenex UV Light robot for specified rooms where available.
  • Return soiled and clean unused mops to the department and place in proper containers/areas.
  • Adhere to all applicable regulations and standards.
  • Adhere to proper handling, transport, and disposal of all waste types, including hazardous, infectious, sharps, confidential, recycling, and regular trash.
  • Complete DOT Certification in order to package and transport regulated medical waste.
