Environmental Services Tech
About The Position
The Environmental Services Technician keeps patient rooms, care areas, equipment, and common spaces clean and sanitized to help protect patients, visitors, and staff from infectious diseases and other hazards. The role performs routine and specialized cleaning and disinfection, follows healthcare environmental-services standards, and handles biohazardous materials and waste safely. It may also include replenishing dispensers and other supplies, delivering clean linens, maintaining equipment and cleaning carts, and assisting with facility needs. Success in this role requires thoroughness, safety-consciousness, accountability, and effective communication with the patient care team.
Requirements
- Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Nice To Haves
- High school graduation or GED, with general studies.
- Previous healthcare experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily occupied, discharge, and transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and common spaces.
- Follow infection prevention, safety, risk management, and HIPAA guidelines, including proper PPE use, hand hygiene, isolation precautions, and waste-handling procedures.
- Use cleaning chemicals, EVS equipment, and tools safely, and maintain equipment properly.
- Maintain cleaning carts, supplies, and equipment and ensure work areas meet cleanliness, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Refill soap and paper towel dispensers and other supplies, and deliver clean linens.
- Collaborate with the patient care team and resolve concerns using appropriate resources and communication.
- Support performance improvement initiatives and mentor new staff.
- Assist with additional facility needs, including conference room setups, cleaning stairwells and elevators, and changing cubicle curtains.
