Environmental Services Specialist I / Linen Aide
About The Position
The Environmental Services Specialist I / Linen Aide performs cleaning and linen services throughout La Rabida Children’s Hospital. The role cleans patient rooms, bathrooms, clinical and support areas, offices, corridors, kitchens, and common spaces using appropriate cleaning products and disinfectants. Duties include cleaning and disinfecting furniture, fixtures, floors, walls, windows, and waste containers; replacing liners; replenishing dispensers; dusting high surfaces; and handling trash and biohazard waste as directed. The position also supports hospital linen operations by receiving and inspecting clean linen carts, preparing linen for distribution, managing soiled linen, returning clean clothing, replenishing unit supplies, checking inventory, and cleaning and inspecting laundry areas and equipment. For an individual whose primary responsibility is Linen Aide, linen work represents 90% of the role, with the remaining 10% consisting of other essential functions.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Two to three years of experience in health care environmental services or linen work.
Responsibilities
- Clean patient rooms, furniture, beds, cribs, equipment, bathrooms, and other hospital areas using disinfectant or all-purpose cleaner.
- Dust mop and wet mop floors and baseboards, changing mop water and mop heads as directed, including for isolation areas.
- Clean sinks, fixtures, mirrors, windows, blinds, walls, doors, counters, cabinets, and other surfaces.
- Empty and clean waste containers, replace liners, dispose of trash, and separate biohazard waste.
- Replenish soap, paper towel, toilet paper, and other dispensers as needed.
- High-dust vents, door frames, clocks, lights, cabinets, and other elevated surfaces.
- Vacuum carpets and furniture in designated areas.
- Change bed linen and shower curtains as needed.
- Clean refrigerators and other specified appliances, including defrosting and cleaning the kitchen refrigerator monthly and wiping it daily.
- Change and replace sharps containers.
- Receive clean linen carts, inspect them for accuracy, and prepare linen for distribution.
- Pull linen chute and prepare outgoing soiled linen carts.
- Check units for soiled linen, including children's clothing.
- Prepare lab coats and tables for pickup, and return clean clothing to designated areas.
- Clean and disinfect linen carts and replenish clean linen on hospital units.
- Check linen inventory and order as necessary.
- Clean laundry-related areas and inspect equipment for cleanliness and proper working order.
- Upload linen data into the hospital laundry computer.
